Rolls-Royce 6-Cylinder Rescue: Blown Head Gasket & Ignition Overhaul

This classic white Rolls-Royce was towed into our brookvale mechanic workshop running extremely rough on only four of its six cylinders.

A teardown quickly revealed the root cause: a severely blown head gasket. A complete section of the gasket material was missing between the cylinders, causing a total loss of compression.

We removed the cylinder head and sent it out for a full machining service to ensure a perfectly flat mating surface. During the rebuild process, we adjusted the intake valve clearances back to exact factory specifications.

Getting the mechanical compression sorted was only the first step. To ensure the engine fired cleanly and reliably, we overhauled the electrical side. We fitted a new set of twin ignition points and a replacement condenser, then dialled in the ignition timing.

The engine is now firing perfectly on all six cylinders and running exactly as it should.
